Mapping Remnants of New Deal Art

Sharon is working with research assistants Alexa Novo and Lucas Sikora to adapt data from the Living New Deal to create a representational map of New Deal art that still stands. The red dots indicate works created under the auspices of the Treasury Department. Black marks signify works created by the Federal Art Project.
Mapping the Slave Narrative Collection

Sharon is working with Stockton undergraduate Lucas Sikora to map the lives of formerly enslaved people who told their stories to Federal Writers during the 1930s. This map, drawing on a digitization of George Rawick’s multi-volume The American Slave: A Composite Autobiography, creates opportunities for studying Black mobility during and after enslavement. It also makes accessible relevant documents for reparative genealogy.
Claiming Citizenship: African Americans and New Deal Photography

Sharon was the Project Director and Local Curator for the Claiming Citizenship project created with assistance from the following students: Dorothy Luyster, Tessa Messore, Cristen Pizzimenti, Brett Plantas, Nicole Pietrowicz, and Ericka Pitman. This website is a digital extension of a traveling photographic exhibit created by historian and independent curator Rickie Solinger, called "Claiming Citizenship: African Americans and New Deal Photography." The exhibit was on display at Stockton University’s library from January 11-February 28, 2012.
